Betty and Shade at Thurstaston Hill
One of my favourite things as a dog photographer is the opportunities I get to capture the unique personalities and joy that comes from watching dogs enjoying themselves in stunning natural settings. Recently, I had the pleasure of a photoshoot with two delightful dogs, Betty and Shade, at the absolutely stunning location of Thurstaston Hill.
Betty, a yellow labrador, and Shade, a black labrador, are both young dogs with only 6 months difference in age between them and they are the very best of friends. They’re full of youthful exuberance and curiosity, eager to explore the world around them.
The location for this adventure for Betty and Shade, and the beautiful backdrop to their photos was Thurstaston Hill. Located on the Wirral, it offers sweeping views of the Dee Estuary and the Welsh hills in the distance. The landscape is diverse with ancient woodlands, rugged sandstone outcrops and heather covered heaths - each feature providing their own unique opportunities for portraits.
We were very fortunate with the weather on the day of the shoot, with glorious sunshine which highlighted the gorgeous shine on the dogs coats.
One lovely series of images taken from the shoot was with Betty and Shade running towards the camera,. In every image they are perfectly in sync, all four paws and even their ears all making the same movements at the same time. A real testament to their bond.
The contrast in colour between the two dogs perfectly complemented each other perfectly and they both stood out from each other and the backdrops beautifully.
Working with these lovely dogs was an absolute joy. This shoot perfectly demonstrates how a shoot with me can be crafted to be casual in nature. The dogs enjoyed a lovely walk while we were able to capture beautiful portraits with only a couple of short posed moments.
I love to photograph dogs in their element, capturing their personalities and quirks in images that can be displayed as artwork and treasured for years to come.
